DISTILLING 10 YEARS OF PRACTICE

It's not very often that we find the time to stop and reflect on our years in practice. I have had the privilege of doing just that as we have undertaken the mammoth effort of distilling 10 years of MAKO into our new website.
As a member of the team who hasnt been here from the start, the process allowed me to learn a little bit (a lot) more about the people and the company. As I sifted through 10 years of files and folders pulling together a compendium of projects I also filled in all of the gaps in my knowledge of the story of MAKO. A story unravelled that was so much more than the impressive and extensive list of projects, their outcomes and their acclamations.
In February of 2015 Alex and Simon went to Bunnings Warehouse, purchased a door, placed it on top of a few spare table legs in Alex’s back room and opened their laptops. MAKO Architecture was born.
Now, a decade later and as MAKO’s 10th birthday crept up on us, the same two faces sit across from one another in their office in Avalon. Although we now have real desks and proper office, the core of what and who MAKO is remains the same. The mission to operate innovatively in finding creative and pragmatic solutions whilst keeping ideas, process and the environment at the forefront is as just as strong.
Over the years the company has expanded and together we have grown, we have learnt a lot and we have formed a strong team. A group of like minded, engaged and passionate people working to better our built environment.
But more than that, we area team of humans. A team that actually likes each other's company. A team that chooses to have lunch together, to head out for coffee together. A team that genuinely get on with each other, that supports one another, a team that has fostered a milieu that is more than mere colleagues.
A sentiment and a workplace quality that directly reflects the work that we create together. A cohesive team produces a cohesive project. We work together, not just next to one other.
